All The many methods for teaching soccer in JVKs style as well as the other Soaring Soccer coaching staff are greatly influenced by the Dutch vision of coaching. With two trips to evaluate player development in the Netherlands and over 200 hours of coaching as a staff member of COERVER camps, JVK uses these methods in his own camp training sessions by putting technical development first. In the activities, there is less down time because of little or no lines, less talk, more action. No player is left out. No player is over looked. No player can hide. So every player is involved. Every player will be encouraged. Every player will be recognized. Soaring Soccer Staff "will" catch a great moment in every player and let the world know! By the time a practice or training is over, each youngster should be proud of something they've achieved. The psychology of every age has been studied and is understood whats needed for success. U6/U7 - At the U6 and U7 ages, we do our best to use games that have hints of Mosston's Slanty Line Theory. This is where every player is able to square off with his or her own best ability. The activities will never stay too easy and will never stay too difficult. There isn't always a right or wrong way, so creativity will be acknowledged and praised. This age, we have one coach for every 8 players U8+ - At U8 and up more things start with the ELM. Yes you think of a big strong tree. The big strong tree had to start somewhere. For us ELM is the start of a great person. "E"ffort, "L"earning which always comes from making some "M"istakes. This can surely be carried on through out every persons life. This goes for soccer as well. Life long habits are made very early in a persons life. So at least in this game, we feel it's important to try and start to get the technical things sorted out at 8 & 9 years old and continue to perfect them the best we can as players grow up. Again, we are not stopping constantly, we let them play, but with little breaks and especially in warm up we emphasize the standing foot, hips & body balance/center of gravity. Most of this is accomplished with activities requiring COD's (Change of Direction) also allowing players to strengthen ball control skills with many repetitions in dribbling games. Within these games there is defending and transition. (The moment the ball is won or lost "what do you do now?") In the 8 year old to 10 year old age group we aim for 12 players per coach U12+ - With Tweens and Teens we still work on technical skill but we are also entering the small group play and team play. We are looking to help players with better positioning/location on playing area, shape or angle of of hips and shoulders for better field vision and location to gain more options and elevate personal play. For players 11 year and up we prefer no more than 16 players per coach Soaring Soccer Coaches will always help players figure out a solution through guided discovery (Also known as the Socratic Method). We do not constantly bark orders and we don't always give the answers. We ask the right questions to help the light bulb turn on and have the players tell us and show us what the best answer is. We also help players realize that the game is fun because its a challenge which means that there is never a guarantee of a victory decided by the numbers on a score board. More inspirations in coaching soccer for JVK come from NSCAA, the German Youth Soccer Development Program, The English FA and former Everton Youth Academy coach Tony (Tosh) Farrell. JVK's certificates and licenses are not the local level, state level or even regional level but NATIONAL levels. JVK is also certified by the English FA in Youth Psychology for Soccer and has the Brazilian "C" level coaching license.
